For Green Planet

Soul Foundation is launching the For Green Planet Initiative to make our planet a safer, greener, more sustainable home for the generations to come. With this initiative, we will support individuals and groups in their R&D for replacing harmful single-use plastics and wood/paper pulp-based products with environmentally friendly, compostable, or biodegradable products made from agriculture waste. In doing so, we can reduce the amount of carbon emitted, and reduce the amount of overall waste on our planet which will have a positive impact on air quality, climate, biodiversity, and sustainability of natural resources.

It is a potent time to make shifts on our planet and support more sustainable practices while reducing our impact. Research efforts to further scientific innovation and discovery are a critical component in the development and discovery of alternative solutions, encouraging the evolution and manifestation of a healthier planet. Here we have developed a platform to support research that promotes solutions that reinforce the health of our planet’s air, soil, and water quality while ensuring that upcoming state and federal environmental mandates will be met.

Benefits of this research initiative include opportunities to support:

  • Further development of important solutions to environmental problems and integrating innovative ideas for reducing the damage done to the environment through waste pollution, use of plastics. Containers and packaging alone contribute over 23% of the litter that ends up on beaches and in our water ecosystems, negatively impacting water quality, the health of aquatic wildlife and the overall health of important ecosystems.

  • Conservation and preservation of our planet’s natural resources as fossils fuels are extracted and needed to make plastics.

  • Economic benefits to farmers by providing opportunities to sell their agricultural leftovers to be used to make biodegradable, compostable products, which can replace single-use plastic while reducing CO2 emissions by eliminating the need to burn waste from crops.

  • The study of Enzymes for use in environmentally conscious products. They are key elements governing metabolic pathways in all living organisms. They have a wide range of biocatalytic properties. Cysteine protease is an important enzyme for many industrial applications; it is well studied and primarily functions in degrading and breaking down cellular protein structure. It can be found in virtually every bacteria, eukaryote, and bacteria and can be used for making plant-based products that are biodegradable and compostable.

  • A positive carbon footprint by cultivating more carbon in the soil through composting, which reduces the amount of carbon in the atmosphere and helps stabilize the climate.
